Ambulatory Care Centre

Dartford, Kent

The new Darent Valley Hospital was designed by Paulley Architects around an integral Ambulatory Care & Diagnostic Centre serving the Dartford Community.

At the centre of the hospital, on the ground floor, the department brings together four clusters of specialist clinics providing cardio-respiratory, ophthalmology, ENT, gastro, haematology, oncology, dermatology, genito-urinary medicine, ante-natal and gynaecology in a suite of 48 consult/examination rooms around a central reception lounge. These clinics are linked to the diagnostic departments of radiology, MRI, phlebotomy, pathology and the treatment departments of day surgery, endoscopy and oral surgery. The support services of rehabilitation and pharmacy are nearby. The department is further linked to the accident & emergency, fracture and orthopaedic facilities.

As such, the Ambulatory Care & Diagnostic Centre crosses the boundary between a traditional outpatients department and a modern diagnostic and treatment centre. However, it is designed to deal effectively with day case procedures in a relaxed and reassuring environment.
